Acetyl Cedrene contact skin allergen and asthmatic chemical Irritant

The molecule Acetyl Cedrene (CAS 32388-55-9) causes contact dermatitis, itching, rashes and can cause asthma.  This blog is about Acetyl Cedrene as skin contact allergen and asthmatic. Chemically, it is a sesquiterpene found in the essential oil of cedar.   Surprisingly, it is found in many perfumes, air fresheners, scented candles, disinfectants, laundry and fabric treatment products. Critically, it is added to these products. Two important properties in this chemical both as a strong fragrance and also due to its mild bacteriostatic proprieties in cleaning products also.  Afterwards, It can be found on surfaces after cleaning with these products and cause skin outbreaks.

Acetyl Cedrene as a contact skin allergen

Found to cause contact dermatitis, asthma, itching and persistent eczema after exposure.  Acetyl Cedrene is an irritant for patients with psoriasis.  Thus, psoriasis skin lesions exposed to Acetyl Cedrene become inflamed on hands and where laundry touches joints.

Further more it can cause asthma attacks and sinus issues on breathing this fragrance.

Specifically, Acetyl Cedrene is also a known human immune system toxicant and environmental hazard.  Clearly this chemical made the list as an allergen in EU Banned and Restricted Fragrances.  It use is in many perfumes and laundry products world wide.   Clinically, doctors note increases of contact dermatitis and asthma from this allergen.
