JN.1 variant cases at 85.7%

This post summarizes that the JN.1 variant cases.  On Monday January 22nd, The CDC estimated COVID subvariant JN.1 to account for about 85.7% of cases in the United States, as of Jan. 19.  Now the widely circulating variant of SARS-CoV-2 has taken first place the country and globally. Thus, the JN.1 variant cases are at 85.7%.

About JN.1 & JN.1.4

There is no evidence at present that JN.1 causes more severe disease than other variants. The CDC said, adding that currently available vaccines are expected to increase protection against the variant.  JN.1, which traces its lineage back to BA.2.86.  The predicted range by the CDC of 83% to 88% for January marks an increase from the estimated prevalence of 55% to 68% of cases in the U.S.   As per the agency’s projections from Jan. 5. as shown, how actual this prediction was.

The Good News

Surprisingly, the percent change in hospital admissions dropped -9.6%.  Positive tests dropped -1%.  Hospital emergency room visits dropped -19%.
